Unlike popular Caribbean destinations, hotels in Martinique are not in abundance and you won’t find any of the big-name hotel chains on the island. There are only a couple of all-inclusive hotels which is something that makes Martinique very unique. Instead, you’ll find some of the most charming bed and breakfasts in Martinique, one of which is La Maison de Clementine.
Martinique is a picturesque island located in the Caribbean Sea. Situated in the Lesser Antilles, it lies near the eastern coast of Central America. Martinique is full of breathtaking landscapes and is a paradise for nature enthusiasts. From lush rainforests, pristine beaches, and towering mountains, this island offers a diverse range of attractions. Additionally, Martinique showcases a captivating blend of French and Caribbean culture which made me fall head over heels when I visited this small island oasis.
There are numerous ways to travel to this tropical paradise. You can find regular flights from most major international airports or hop on a scenic ferry ride if you're already island hopping in the region. Travelers can immerse themselves in the vibrant local markets in Fort-de-France, indulge in delectable Creole cuisine, and experience the warmth of the island's welcoming locals. Honest Review of La Maison de Clementine
I visited Martinique in January for a long weekend and it was absolutely perfect! When looking for hotels in Martinique, I knew I wanted to stay in a central location and when I found La Maison de Clementine, I knew I had to check it out. From the website alone, you can tell that the owners are passionate about hospitality and that the property itself is beautiful.
Upon our arrival, we were greeted outside by the owners and shown to our room. We stayed in the Barbuda Suite which is the perfect size for two people and has stunning views of the mountains! Once we dropped off our luggage, we sat with the owners on the terrace near the pool where we had welcome drinks and a light snack. The owners asked what our plans were during our stay and made some recommendations. They even helped us book dinner reservations and a boat tour for our last day! It was really lovely to be welcomed like that right upon arrival and it made us feel right at home.
Each morning, breakfast was at the community table outside on the terrace of the main house near the pool. It consisted of coffee and freshly squeezed juices with traditional French pastries, homemade jams and jellies, homemade yogurt, and fresh fruit. Most of the fruit is grown on the grounds and the pastries are made locally. If you’re looking for the best place to stay in Martinique, La Maison de Clementine is your answer! I couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay and if I visit again, this is where I’ll be staying.
About La Maison de Clementine
This bed and breakfast in Martinique is completely gated and on a residential street tucked away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Fort de France. The grounds feature a small pool, complimentary self-parking, and a variety of species of flowers and fruit trees which you’ll get a little taste of during breakfast each morning. There are five rooms at La Maison de Clementine and each has a unique style and private entrances. Most rooms average $150 per night and can accommodate up to 2 guests.

Optional dinner service of your choice of a Creole Plate or Seafood Plate. Dinner is €19.50 per person and you must order by 4 pm.

The Room Options at La Maison de Clementine
There are only five guest rooms at this bed and breakfast in Martinique, making it feel very intimate and you can get to know the owners, their adorable pup, and the other guests. As previously mentioned, most of the suites can be booked on average for $150/night. Their largest suite is listed at about $300/night and has its’ own small private pool. The rooms are all about 500 square feet and three of the five have private terraces.
Mayero Suite
Rates average $150 per night
Similar in size and layout to the Barbuda Suite, the Mayero Suite is also located on the second floor of the main house and is 450 square feet. This room also has a private outdoor terrace with a hammock and views of the larger swimming pool on the property. The main difference between this room and the Barbuda Suite is that there is no soaker tub in the Mayero Suite.
Barbuda Suite
Rates average $160 per night
The Barbuda Suite is the room I stayed in and it was amazing! It’s located on the second floor of the main house and has a pair of wooden pocket doors that open directly to the bedroom which has a beautiful dark palm print wallpaper. The Barbuda Suite is 450 square feet and has a private 200 square foot terrace with a hammock. My favorite thing about this room is that you can leave the wooden doors open so that just the glass door is closed and wake up to a gorgeous view of the mountains from the bed - it’s the best way to start your day! There’s also a spacious bathroom with a large soaker tub and walk-in shower.
Grenade Suite
Rates average $170 per night
The Grenade Suite is one of the two suites without a private outdoor terrace. Even though there’s no terrace, this spacious suite offers beautiful views of the lush garden and is decorated with a bright Bird of Paradise wallpaper. This room is a great option for those who plan to be on the go for the majority of their vacation.
Cariacou Suite
Rates average $180 per night
The bright parrot wallpaper that’s in the Cariacou Suite is sure to put a smile on your face! This room is located on the ground floor of the detached guest house and has a 300-square-foot covered patio with a sitting area and desk. The interior of the room itself is 550 square feet and has a spacious bathroom.
Tobago Suite
Rates average $300 per night
The Tobago Suite is the most expensive room offered at La Maison de Clementine. The space is almost 600 square feet and has a private terrace of almost 350 square feet which houses a small plunge pool. This room is located on the ground floor of the detached guest house with ample storage space and beautiful hummingbird wallpaper.
The Location
La Maison de Clementine is located in the capital of Martinique, Fort-de-France. The downtown area is a bustling town full of historic architecture and is conveniently located near many beautiful beaches across the island. When visiting Martinique, you’ll fly into Martinique Aimé Césaire International Airport so choosing a hotel in Fort-de-France is very ideal. Maison Clementine is in the district of Didier which is a 15-minute drive from the airport. You’ll want to make sure you have a GPS readily available once you leave the airport if you’re renting a car because the roads in Martinique can be tricky to navigate when visiting for the first time. There are tons of dining options near La Maison de Clementine, as well as shops in the city center. From La Maison de Clementine you can be at gorgeous beaches to the south in 45 minutes or at the grand Mount Pelee to the north in a little over an hour.
